Is Gilt Groupe Good or Bad for Fashion? →
There’s money to be made in the discount market.  Here’s a must read about Gilt Groupe, the company which invented the flash sale.  Exaggerated prices, day-old styles made with leftover fabric; it sounds like Gilt is going the way of the outlet center.  Or a department store’s private label goods.  Reminding us that perhaps we should be paying more attention to the clothes than...

Today’s inspiration.  The world’s largest pillow fight, NYC, 2010.  A few notes: The music is ‘Late Blues’ by ida.  iTunes link. Footage by Casio Exilim EX-F1, a prosumer DSLR which shoots video for $1000. I’m still saving up for a Canon EOS 7D.

Consumer driven healthcare doesn't work.
As a business, it’d function if we called it consumer driven video games or a consumer driven shoe market.  There’s definitely no such thing as too many video games and too much footwear.  Which is not the case when it comes to healthcare.  Everyone’s a consumer, some are physicians, but few are both.  So why is Dr. Mario setting the nation’s healthcare agenda?

Pixelmator for $59 = Poor Man's Photoshop
Me: i just realized i'm enough of a dork to seek out the iphone photoshop 1.0 mobile app
RD: i haven't used ps in ages- using Pixelmator for the mac now
Me: huh. i did not know about pixelmator.
RD: yep, just a LITTLE cheaper than ps ;) doesn't do everything, but definitely does enough
Me: i take it the free version does the paint shop pro thing and doesn't let you save
not sure... yep - you have to buy it... to kill the watermark, anyway. looks like a cross between macromedia fireworks and adobe photoshop... pretty much exactly what anyone not a professional needs for editing
RD: exactly- it's powerful enough for 90% of people that will just pirate photoshop since they can't afford it
Me: even with the academic discount it's one hell of a price. i mean, hell, you can buy spanking new hardware that will hit you back for the cost of the newest version of photoshop
RD: i know... that's what a virtual monopoly will do. i mean, they really do have a monopoly in the design industries
RD: TRY getting a job claiming you prefer anything over photoshop

staceys-scrapbook: So, a famous person has finally been fucked by an airline’s fat policy. Director Kevin Smith got booted off a Southwest plane tonight, after he was already settled in “WITH ARM RESTS DOWN,” as he put… This is what you get when you make films like Jersey Girl.  The real tragedy is the Director’s Cut is a much, much better flick than the one they went to print with.  I...

My Valentine's Day plans.
Stay out Saturday night and get sloshed on my friend’s 30th birthday. Go to a diner and get pancakes. Mmm… Pancakes. Workout. Sleep. And then catch the premiere of Tyrannosaurus Sex on Discovery Channel.
